At home Microdermabrasion with ingredients from your pantry

18 Mar

In my previous life I used to have the odd diamond microdermabrasion session with my local beautician. I loved how my skin (although a little beet red) felt so soft & smooth after. It was one of my little luxuries……….little did I know I could be achieveing the same results at home for literally cents.

When I first tried this, I thought there is no way it can work as good as a professional microdermabrasion session but I have skin that says otherwise.

I stumbled upon this by accident as I had quite a few ghastly blackheads on my nose that did not want to go away, I tried honey treatments, scrubs, clay masks, you name it & none of them moved those stubborn blackheads, that was until I tried this treatment & scrubbed them all away, so I now have silky smooth skin again.

I now have the ultimate luxury of having an at-home microdermabrasion once a week. And the best thing about this other than the fact that it is super cheap compared to the real deal is that you can customise it to Β suit your skin.

In summer when my skin is oily & threatening to break out on me – I use the apple cider vinegar when its winter & my skin is a little dryer I choose to use jojoba or olive oil instead. So I still get the sloughing off of the dead skin but without the drying factor.

So what two pantry ingredients do all of this for your skin – bicarb soda & apple cider vinegar.

At Home Microdermabrasion a’la Mama Going Natural

  • 2 heaped teaspoons bicarb soda
  • 1 teaspoon Apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg’s Organic)

Now for the hard part!. Mix your bicarb & vinegar together to make a paste. Wet your face & gently apply your mix in gentle circle motions, rubbing your face. Go gently as you can always do it again & you don’t want to scrub your skin off.

Rinse off with water & then apply your favourite serum or moisturiser as your skin will be ready to suck up all the goodies.

Feel free to mix this routine up, I like to do it once per week & vary using vinegar or oil depending on what I think will benefit my skin best at that time.

PS – Don’t tell your beautician, it’ll be our little secret πŸ™‚

Decadent “Healthier” Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownie

peanut-butter-&-chocolate-brownies

This Brownie is so decadent, you won’t believe its healthy.

It is my new “favourite” naughty treat, one of these & a cup of peppermint tea & I am in heaven. Especially if my little one is asleep & I am curled up on the sofa watching trashy tv!! There you go Β – thats my dirty little secret for today – its true kids after you go to bed Mama does have a party πŸ™‚

I don’t know why but I am addicted to all things peanut butter & chocolate, they are the perfect marriage of ingredients, the saltiness of the peanut butter & the sweetness of the chocolate brownie, just elevates these brownies to the level of divine.

And while they are not necessarily healthy, they are definelty a healtheir treat. Un-like your store brought varieties that contain a host of nasties & non-food substances.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownies a’la Mama Going Natural

  • 125gm butter
  • 200gm sugar free cacao chips or sugar free chocolate chips
  • 2/3 c coconut sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 c spelt
  • 1 t vanilla extract
  • 1/4 c walnuts
  • 1 c sugar free cacao chips or sugar free chocolate chips

Pre-heat oven to 160 degrees. Grease & line the base of a 19cm square pan.

Melt the butter, 200gms choc chips & coconut sugar in a saucepan on the stove top, once they have melted together leave the pan to cool for 10 minutes. Once your chocolate mixture is cool add in your eggs, vanilla extract & spelt, stir through to combine well. Add in the cup of choc chips & walnuts. Pour into the pan & smooth out the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes. The longer you cook it for the more cakey it will become, the less you cook it the more dense & fudgey it will be.
