Pregnancy Belly lotion to prevent stretch marks

30 May

Stretch marks………ahhhh…….nobody wants that!

How-to-Get-Rid-of-Stretch-Marks-Naturally-by-Mama-Natural-1024x582I am currently incubating baby number two & have been determined not to add to my  little stretch mark compilation.

Unfortunately with Miss Five I lathered on lotions & potions but just on my belly, I had no concept that you could get stretch marks on your hips or back side, so I was left with a smooth belly but a few faint patches on my hips. Which thankfully with time & this lotion have faded to being barely noticeable.

So with number two I have been sure to lather on this sumptuous tummy lotion all over my growing body 🙂

I have made a tummy lotion rather than a butter, just because I don’t have the time to apply a butter after my shower & then stand around waiting for it to soak in before getting dressed.

Come on, I’m a Mum, a shower by yourself is already a luxury (right Mum’s) but standing around waiting for a butter or balm to soak in before getting dressed, well thats just madness.

And so far, as we enter the last few weeks, I am proud to report “no stretchies” so rest assured this lotion does work just as good as a butter, it just won’t make you late for everything and your clothes greasy.

This lotion has been formulated to use every ingredient that is purported to be beneficial in preventing stretch marks, so if you can’t assemble all the ingredients, even making a lotion out of a few of them should still work wonders.

Here is what is in our tummy lotion & why:

Castor oil, as a poultice has been known to greatly reduce the appearance of stretch marks, applying castor oil direct to the skin & then wrapping in plastic wrap & leaving on overnight has had dramatic effects in diminishing stretch marks & returning the skin to good condition. It is a well known humectant & helps to re-moisturise the skin.

Sesame seed oil, is super high in vitamin E which helps to prevent & remove scarring, it’s high in antioxidants and slows down the ageing process, making it good for keeping your skin supple during pregnancy so it can expand without breaking collagen fibres.

Cocoa butter, has long been touted as a stretch mark preventative, it is highly emollient & will keep your skin smooth & soft.

Coconut Oil, is high in essential fatty acids that help to keep your skin moisturised & supple. It is also high in antioxidants & strengthens the epidermis.

Shea Butter, is highly emollient, soothing & protecting for your skin

Rosehip oil, contains a high level of Vitamin A which fades scars & boosts cell growth rate & increases collagen production deep under the skins surface. It also helps to improve elasticity.

Frankincense oil, is well renowned for its restorative properties & its ability to reduce scars.

Geranium oil, not only helps to prevent post-partum depression but it is also a collagen stimulant.

So with this host of amazing restorative, moisturising & collagen stimulating ingredients you can see why our tummy lotion is just as good, if not better than any expensive store brought cream. But best of all you can make it with all natural, 100% Organic ingredients & no hidden nasties that could be transferred to your growing babe.

Stretch Mark Belly Lotion a’la Mama Going Natural

  • 50gm glycerine
  • 200gm aloe vera juice
  • 20gm Emulsifying wax
  • 50gm cocoa butter
  • 50gm shea butter
  • 20gm rosehip oil
  • 20gm coconut oil
  • 20gm castor oil
  • 40gm sesame seed oil
  • 10 drops frankincense essential oil
  • 10 drops geranium essential oil
  • 10 drops rose essential oil (just for fragrance, so use whatever you have on hand)

This lotion does require a little bit of work, but it will make you a tonne of lotion & the results are well worth the work.

In a mason jar combine the glycerine & aloe vera juice (or distilled water if you can’t get aloe juice). In another mason jar combine the E wax, cocoa butter, shea butter, rosehip oil, coconut oil, castor oil & sesame seed oil. Place both jars in a pot of water & let them gently simmer until all your wax & butters have melted into the oils.

Remove from the heat & pour the contents of your aloe vera jar into your oils/butter jar while mixing with a stick blender. Or alternatively, pour your oil mix into a blender on low & then pour in the contents of the liquid jar. Mix well on a low speed for about 5 minutes.

Leave your lotion to cool to just above room temperature & add your essential oils in gently mixing again to combine, pour into jars & set aside to thicken.

I recommend keeping your bulk supply of lotion in the fridge & then keeping a small jar in the bathroom as the lotion has no preservative & will not keep well for weeks in a warm environment.

I have been lathering this on once a day after my shower, but you can put it on as many times as you like, you can even use it to fade & heal previous stretch marks like I have done.

Enjoy
