Homemade organic nipple butter

I am in love with this butter, its so great to soothe those cracked sore nipples, but it also works great on chapped lips & any dry cracked skin. It has been a great addition to our nappy bag as our go anywhere, fix anything balm.

With my first daughter I used a popular lanolin ointment, but since then I have learnt lanolin contains a heavy load of pesticides as the wool is soaked in chemicals to remove parasites before the lanolin is scoured out if it. Not something I want my little baby ingesting.

So after researching other brands of nipple butters I decided to give the DIY option a go as I got to be in charge of the quality of the ingredients. My baby is ingesting this so I want to make sure its made on the best quality, organic, edible ingredients.

This recipe is so simple it’s made from all pure, organic ingredients that can be consumed. I recommend using cocoa butter from your local health food or bulk food store that is used to make chocolate – that way you know it’s 100% safe for your baby to consume, I don’t recommend using cosmetic grade ingredients as our babies tummies are so new that we want to be sure we are giving them pure, natural ingredients that won’t effect their gut flora.

Although this recipe is simple, it has some great ingredients that will soothe & reduce inflammation. The chamomile reduces redness & irritation all while calming your baby. The Coconut oil protects against thrush & has the same medium chain fatty acids that are naturally present in breast milk. The Cocoa butter is super hydrating, protective & moisturising & the beeswax creates a protective layer.

Our nipple butter doesn’t use shea butter although its a super ingredient for soothing balms, its not so good for your babies tummy as it can cause diarrhoea when consumed so we have stayed well away from it.
